American Railway Express Company Garage, 3000 block of Cecil B Moore Ave, Strawberry Mansion, North Philly.
I have to say, I really love this building, I’m a sucker for a good sign. According to the Wikipedia, it was constructed in 1922 as a place to pick up express packages from trains and deliver them by truck. The building also joined the National Register of Historic Places in August 2006.
It seems to have had a couple failed development attempts since 2005, first an Artists’ Loft called Eastern Lofts and then a food distribution center for Common Market.
Now you can buy it for $350,000. I hope someone does and restores that great sign.

Multiple Row homes on the 2900 Block of North Ridge Ave, Strawberry Mansion, North Philly.
The stretch of Ridge Ave, between Hunting Park and Girard Ave., has to be one most ruin concentrated strips in Philly. The level of neglect going on is tragic. These pictures are just from one block.
Philadelphia can’t get enough of ripping up and rebuilding the Independence Hall area, but we don’t seem to have resources for these suffering neighborhoods.
