Pointe-du-Moulin Grain Mill, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

I am away on vacation, but I couldn’t resist shooting some huge Ruin Porn sitting in the middle of a big Montreal Tourist area.

Just like Philly, this abandoned structure is part of a waterfront master plan.  They plan to do “an innovative redevelopment of Pointe-du-Moulin that will do the property justice and contribute to Montreal’s growth and reputation.“ Sound Familiar?

Quickie: Abandoned Pier off Washington Ave. Green, South Philly.

Edward Corner Marine Merchandize Warehouse, Corner of Shackamaxon Street and Delaware Ave, Fishtown, Northeast Philly.

This building was a marine supply company until 1960. Now it’s future may be part of current owner Michael Samschick’s Penn Treaty Village. We’ll see, it’s not the first time grandiose plans were proposed for this building.

The SS United States, Pier 82, South Philly.

There is so much information on the Internets about this ship’s history (in addition to books, great pictures and a documentary) I feel like any attempt I make write about it will be pretty lame.

I will write this — If you’ve ever stood in the Ikea parking lot and thought “they should do something with that eyesore,” head over to savetheunitedstates.org and make a donation! The organization that now owns the ship is raising money to turn it into a museum.

Pier 18  (“The Coal Pier”) part of the Richmond Coal Wharves, Port Richmond, Northeast Philly.

This popular Urbex destination used to be a pier where coal was dumped from railroad cars into ships. This old pier must feel like Brangelina hounded by the Paparazzi with the amount of photos taken of it

I can’t find definitive information about plans for its future, but it seems to be included in the Master Plan for the Central Delaware.

Philadelphia Electric Company Delaware Station, 1300 Block of North Beach Street, Fishtown, North Philly.

You can read about the History of this massive structure on the Internets, but what is going to happen to this “as seen from I-95” eyesore next to Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown?

There is a big-ass project in the works that includes making this site and Penn Treaty Park the “cultural and civic hub of the northern portion of the Central Delaware Waterfront.” You can visit the website for the Master Plan for the Central Delaware and read the entire plan online.

It’s a project 3 years in the making and will take 25-30 years to roll out. It looks pretty awesome. The PECO building in particular will be “renovated into a large museum and an outdoor theatre and concert venue.”

In the meantime I wish PECO would take some of the $$ from last year’s rate hike and at least paint those smoke stacks or something. They look like crap.

Abandoned Pier, 2700 block of South Columbus Blvd.  South Philly.

It blows my mind when something so massive can just lay abandoned and rotting. Philly has a lot of gigantic abandoned structures like this one.

The view between the 2 buildings is amazing, but I couldn’t get past the cyclone fencing. I had to shoot the picture through the fence.
